SRINAGAR, JUNE 20 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sopore, in a multi-lakh telecom project fraud case involving allegations of cheating and financial deception.
Officials said the chargesheet was submitted in FIR No. 44/2023 registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code against Harkeet Singh, son of Guru Mohan Singh, a resident of Kali Mata Mandir, Lal Bangla, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The case stemmed from a complaint alleging that the accused had induced the complainant to invest money by promising an AT&T inbound sales call project purportedly associated with a US-based telecom company. The complainant claimed that substantial amounts were obtained through false assurances and misleading commitments.
During the investigation, EOW Kashmir collected documentary and circumstantial evidence and found that the accused had allegedly used fraudulent misrepresentation and dishonest inducement, causing financial loss to the complainant.
Officials said the probe revealed that the accused had no intention of honouring the commitments and had secured money through deceptive means. Based on the evidence gathered, the allegations were found substantiated, prompting the filing of a chargesheet before the competent court.
Reiterating its commitment to combating economic crimes, the Economic Offences Wing advised the public to exercise caution while dealing with investment schemes, business ventures and employment-related projects promising unusually high returns. It also urged citizens to report suspicious financial activities and remain vigilant against cyber and economic frauds.
