Srinagar, June 20: Widespread public outrage has erupted following the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against a cardiologist at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag over allegations of medical fraud, manipulation of records, misuse of the PMJAY-SEHAT scheme and conducting allegedly unnecessary cardiac procedures.
People from different sections of society have described the allegations as grave and demanded stringent action, including registration of an FIR, a transparent criminal investigation and cancellation of the doctor’s medical licence if the charges are established during the inquiry.
Citizens said that if allegations of patient exploitation, falsification of records and misuse of public health schemes are proven, it would represent a serious breach of trust and jeopardize patient safety. They stressed that healthcare institutions must uphold the highest standards and any misconduct should be dealt with firmly.
Several residents also called for a broader probe to determine whether others were involved and whether public funds or patient welfare had been compromised. They sought exemplary punishment for anyone found guilty.
Appealing to the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the Health and Medical Education Department, the public demanded a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation, asserting that no individual should be shielded from accountability.
The departmental inquiry is currently underway, and further action will depend on its findings. Any determination of guilt will be subject to the outcome of the ongoing proceedings.
