Dubai, Jun 3: Kuwait on Wednesday announced the suspension of commercial flights after an alleged Iranian drone attack targeted Kuwait International Airport, injuring several people, according to officials.
The Defence Ministry spokesperson Brig. Gen. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said “a number of hostile drones” struck the airport’s passenger terminal, causing significant damage and leaving multiple individuals injured.
The incident reportedly came hours after Iran and the United States exchanged missile strikes in the region amid escalating tensions. U.S. forces had earlier carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian military positions, while also reporting the interception of incoming missiles and drones targeting regional bases, including in Kuwait and Bahrain.
According to U.S. Central Command, American forces responded by striking Iranian military assets, including a ground control station on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for coordinated attacks targeting U.S. military interests in the region, though it did not specifically name Kuwait. The Guard said the action was in response to earlier U.S. military strikes and warned of further escalation.
Meanwhile, reports suggested Iran had paused communication with ceasefire mediators amid rising regional tensions. However, U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed such claims, insisting that diplomatic contacts were ongoing.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while addressing Congress, expressed cautious optimism over ongoing negotiations but noted that reaching a final agreement remained uncertain.
Further details are awaited as the situation develops.
