Leh: The Leh Apex Body on Wednesday announced that it will organise a public gathering at NDS Stadium on May 16 to felicitate the Bar Association Leh for its role and support during the difficult period following the September 24 incident last year in which several people were injured and casualties were reported.
Addressing a press conference, Apex Body co-chairman Chering Dorjey Lakruk, flanked by members of the organization, said the Bar Association Leh had played a significant role in supporting the people and pursuing the related legal cases in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident.
He said the legal fraternity stood firmly with the people during a sensitive and challenging time, and therefore the Apex Body had decided to publicly honour and thank the Bar Association Leh for its efforts and solidarity.
Lakruk appealed to the people of Ladakh to participate in large numbers in the programme scheduled to be held at NDS Stadium, stating that the event is intended to express collective gratitude and unity.
Clarifying reports regarding a shutdown call, he said no formal “call-off” or bandh call has been issued to the merchant community. However, he added that if shopkeepers voluntarily keep their establishments closed till 2 PM on May 16 in support of the programme, the organisers would be highly thankful for the gesture.
The Apex Body leadership reiterated that the gathering is being organised as a mark of appreciation towards the Bar Association Leh and called upon the public to extend wholehearted support to the event.
