NEW DELHI, MAY 13 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reduced the size of his convoy to less than half, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for responsible fuel use amid the West Asia crisis.
The move is part of a broader government push to promote efficient resource use while maintaining all mandatory security arrangements.
The decision comes shortly after Prime Minister Modi himself reportedly reduced the size of his convoy during recent visits to Gujarat and Assam, while continuing to follow all security protocols mandated under SPG guidelines.
Sources said the reduction was implemented after Modi’s address in Hyderabad, where he urged citizens to support economic resilience by cutting fuel consumption and adopting cleaner, more sustainable alternatives.
Following the Prime Minister’s appeal, Amit Shah also ordered a reduction in the number of vehicles in his convoy without compromising security arrangements.
In another related step, the Prime Minister has reportedly directed officials to include electric vehicles in official convoys wherever feasible, without making new purchases.
Addressing a public gathering in Secunderabad, Modi stressed that patriotism goes beyond border security and also includes responsible daily behaviour by citizens.
He urged people to reduce petrol and diesel usage by relying more on public transport, carpooling, and electric vehicles, while also encouraging lower consumption of edible oil to reduce import dependence.
The Prime Minister further called on farmers to shift toward natural farming practices and reduce reliance on chemical fertilisers, framing these steps as part of a broader effort to strengthen India’s economic resilience amid global energy and trade disruptions.
