Kargil, Apr 03: A three-day training programme for Census 2027 concluded in Kargil on Thursday, with officials outlining the schedule for enumeration and introducing revised operational guidelines aimed at improving efficiency and accuracy in data collection.
The training, held at the Conference Hall in Baroo, was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner and District Census Officer, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS), and attended by tehsildars from Sankoo, Taisuru, Zanskar and Shakar-Chiktan, along with Naib Tehsildars, patwaris and other field-level functionaries.
Addressing the participants, the District Census Officer underscored the importance of the census as a foundational exercise for governance and planning, calling for strict adherence to updated and practical methodologies during the enumeration process. He urged officials to ensure coordinated efforts across departments to facilitate smooth execution.
Providing clarity on deployment, he said teaching staff would not be engaged as backup personnel for census duties, following deliberations with the Deputy Commissioner, in recognition of their primary responsibilities in the education sector. Instead, non-teaching staff and officials from various departments will be mobilised for the exercise.
Officials were also briefed on the timeline of activities, with the self-enumeration portal scheduled to remain open from May 17 to May 31. This will be followed by the house listing phase beginning June 1, marking the next stage in the nationwide enumeration process.
During the programme, master trainers conducted detailed sessions covering all stages of the census, from self-enumeration procedures to final data submission. The sessions focused on operational clarity and accuracy, equipping field staff with the necessary tools and instructions for implementation on the ground.
The training concluded with a call for sustained coordination and diligence among officials to ensure the successful conduct of Census 2027 in the district.
