Leh, Mar 29: With Leh preparing to host the Holy Buddha Relics Exposition and the Sindhu Maha Kumbh, the administration on Saturday initiated a coordinated cleanliness drive across major transport stands, focusing on sanitation and public hygiene in high-footfall areas.
The exercise was carried out under the directions of Hon’ble LG Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena, with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Ladakh and the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO), Leh, working in coordination with the Municipal Committee and various transport unions.
Officials said the campaign covered key transport nodes, including taxi and bus stands, which are expected to serve as primary transit points for visitors during the forthcoming events. The effort was aimed at ensuring that public transport spaces remain clean, organised and conducive to increased passenger movement.
Participation from transport stakeholders formed a central component of the initiative, with representatives and drivers from multiple unions taking part in the drive. They also conveyed their willingness to sustain cleanliness measures beyond the campaign, particularly during the period of heightened activity.
During the drive, officials underscored the need for institutionalising routine sanitation practices across transport facilities. Stakeholders were sensitised on maintaining hygiene standards through regular cleaning and systematic waste disposal, in line with broader civic expectations.
The administration described the initiative as part of a wider effort to reinforce public responsibility and ensure preparedness ahead of the anticipated influx of pilgrims and visitors. Maintaining orderly and hygienic transport infrastructure, officials noted, would be critical to facilitating smooth mobility during the events.
Indications from the administration suggest that similar drives will be undertaken in the coming days, as part of ongoing measures to uphold sanitation standards and enhance the overall public experience during the religious gatherings.
