Leh, Mar 18: The Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, V.K. Saxena, on Tuesday paid his maiden visit to the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) at Devachan, where he reviewed the institution’s humanitarian, educational and spiritual initiatives and assured continued administrative support for its future programmes.

The Lt Governor arrived at the Sambodhi Retreat Centre within the MIMC campus and was received by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder of the Centre, along with senior functionaries. The visit marked a formal engagement between the UT administration and one of Ladakh’s prominent spiritual and social service institutions.

During an interaction held on the occasion, Bhikkhu Sanghasena apprised the Lt Governor of the diverse initiatives undertaken by the Centre, both within its Devachan campus and in outreach areas. The briefing covered programmes related to education, community welfare and spiritual development, which have been central to the Centre’s activities over the years.

The Lt Governor was also informed about preparations for the forthcoming exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha, scheduled to be held in Ladakh in May. The event is expected to draw participation from devotees and visitors from within and outside the region.

As part of the visit, Bhikkhu Sanghasena presented a sacred Buddha statue to the Lt Governor, conveying goodwill and prayers for his tenure in the Union Territory.

Later, the Lt Governor undertook a guided tour of the campus, inspecting key facilities including the Yoga and Meditation Hall and the Conference Hall. He also visited the Buddha Park for World Peace, often referred to as the “City of 1000 Buddhas,” where he was briefed on the concept and development of the park.

Expressing appreciation for the Centre’s work, Saxena commended the efforts of Bhikkhu Sanghasena and his team in advancing humanitarian causes and fostering a culture of peace and spirituality. He noted the role of such institutions in contributing to social welfare and community well-being across Ladakh.

The Lt Governor reiterated that the administration would extend cooperation to initiatives that promote societal harmony and holistic development in the region.

Senior officials accompanying the Lt Governor included Administrative Secretaries Sanjit Rodrigues, Shashanka Ala and Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary; Deputy Commissioner Leh Romil Singh Donk; Senior Superintendent of Police Leh Raam R; SSP Security Piyush Fulzele; and retired IFS officer Jigmet Takpa,
