Jammu, March 11, 2026: The Jammu & Kashmir government has constituted a high-level committee to examine granting 2½ days’ pay and allowances to non-gazetted employees of the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department engaged in roster duties on Sundays and public holidays, as per Government Order No. 144-JK(HME) of 2026.
Chaired by the Principal of Government Medical College Jammu, with Director Health Services Jammu, Director Health Services Kashmir, and Chief Accounts Officer of Government Medical College Rajouri as members, the panel will assess the operational necessity of deploying ministerial staff during off-days in government hospitals and health institutions.
It will scrutinize the nature of these duties, review existing rules and regulations, and recommend eligible staff categories for the compensatory benefits based on functional requirements. This initiative addresses long-standing demands from health workers amid staffing shortages in J&K’s public healthcare system, reflecting the
Omar Abdullah-led government’s focus on welfare measures, particularly in remote and border areas where round-the-clock services remain critical. The committee’s findings could ease burdens on frontline administrative personnel by formalizing extra pay for holiday engagements.
