New Delhi/Kargil, Mar 07: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, on Saturday met the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, at Lok Niwas in New Delhi and discussed a range of governance and development matters concerning the Union Territory.
During the interaction, Dr Akhoon congratulated the Lieutenant Governor on assuming charge and conveyed his expectation that the developmental aspirations of the people of Ladakh would gain momentum under his leadership.
According to officials familiar with the meeting, the CEC placed before the Lieutenant Governor several socio-political and developmental concerns affecting the Union Territory, drawing attention to the region’s vast geographical spread, severe climatic conditions and scattered remote settlements that continue to shape governance and infrastructure delivery.
Dr Akhoon also highlighted issues related to the people of both Kargil and Leh districts, outlining local expectations regarding public infrastructure, service delivery and long-term development planning.
Emphasising the administrative framework of the Union Territory, the CEC called for closer coordination between the UT Administration and the Hill Councils to ensure timely execution of development works. He stressed that improved cooperation would help accelerate infrastructure creation and strengthen delivery of essential services, particularly in far-flung areas.
The meeting also touched upon the need for balanced and inclusive development across the region, with Dr Akhoon underscoring that equitable progress in both districts remains central to Ladakh’s overall growth.
Lieutenant Governor Saxena gave a patient hearing to the concerns and suggestions raised during the meeting and acknowledged the role played by the Hill Council in addressing district-level issues.
Assuring cooperation from the UT Administration, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration remains committed to the welfare and overall development of the people of Ladakh. He expressed confidence that coordinated planning between the administration and the Hill Councils would help advance ongoing and future development initiatives across Leh and Kargil districts.
