New Delhi, Jan 29: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), New Delhi, organised a special felicitation programme today to honour Dr Padma Gurmet, Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, following his selection for the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India.
The programme was held as a mark of recognition for Dr Gurmet’s outstanding contributions towards the preservation, promotion, and regulation of Sowa-Rigpa, one of India’s traditional medical systems.
Welcoming Dr Padma Gurmet, Dr Maneesha Upendra Kothekar, Chairperson of NCISM, congratulated him on this national honour and highlighted his remarkable efforts in strengthening Sowa-Rigpa and ensuring its rightful place within the Indian System of Medicine.
Dr Asim Ali Khan, President of the Board of Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa, also praised Dr Gurmet’s long and untiring dedication towards the development of Sowa-Rigpa and other Indian systems of medicine across the country.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Presidents and Board Members of various autonomous boards under NCISM, reflecting the collective appreciation of his work.
Expressing gratitude, Dr Padma Gurmet thanked the Chairperson, Presidents, and members of NCISM for honouring him and reaffirmed his commitment to further advancing the Sowa-Rigpa medical tradition.
NCISM, the statutory body responsible for maintaining quality and affordable education in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sowa-Rigpa, reiterated that Dr Gurmet has played a crucial role in shaping regulatory frameworks and contributing immensely to the growth of Sowa-Rigpa in India.
The event concluded with renewed recognition of Dr Padma Gurmet’s significant role in strengthening India’s rich heritage of traditional medicine.
