Leh, Jan 29: Mohmad Haneefa Jan, Member of Parliament from Ladakh and a Member of the Standing Committee on Defence, has concluded a six-day study tour of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, aimed at reviewing India’s defence institutions and training facilities across multiple regions.
In a statement issued on his social media account, the Ladakh MP said the tour provided him an opportunity to engage directly with senior officials and experts at major defence establishments located in Kochi, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar and Varanasi.
The itinerary included visits to the Southern Naval Command, the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Air Force training establishments, DRDO centres working on artificial intelligence and robotics, the Naval Science and Technology Laboratory, the Indian Coast Guard, Ordnance Factory Badmal, and the Varanasi Cantonment.
Haneefa said the interactions offered first-hand insight into the ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s defence capability. He noted that progress in defence manufacturing, modern platforms and research-driven systems reflects a steady move towards greater self-reliance and preparedness.
“The pace of modernisation and indigenisation is encouraging. Strong focus on research and development is enhancing our defence readiness and overall national security,” the MP stated.
The six-day study tour was held from January 17 to January 22, 2026, and was part of the Standing Committee’s regular oversight of defence infrastructure, training standards and operational readiness across the country.
