Srinagar, Jan 28: Authorities have issued a high-level avalanche warning for vulnerable areas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, including the popular Sonamarg tourist resort, following a recent avalanche near the New Truck Yard on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred around 10:15 pm with no reported casualties or property damage, prompting immediate deployment of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams for assessment.
Ganderbal Police stated avalanche risks remain “very high” due to ongoing weather conditions, urging tourists, locals, and transporters to avoid prone zones entirely and follow safety advisories along the Sonamarg axis.
Agencies are actively monitoring the situation with precautionary measures in place to protect residents and visitors.
