Srinagar, Jan 25: The Srinagar–Jammu national highway was partially restored on Sunday after remaining closed for over two days due to heavy snowfall, officials said.
Fresh snowfall in parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, on Sunday morning hampered snow clearance operations on the highway. An official from the traffic police said that stranded vehicles between the Nashri and NAVYUG tunnels are being cleared on priority.
Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the 270-km-long highway since Friday, when heavy snowfall forced authorities to shut the road.
Srinagar city also witnessed light snowfall in the early hours of the day. However, flight operations at Srinagar International Airport have not been affected by the inclement weather. “Flight operations at Srinagar airport are going on normally, and three flights have already arrived,” an official of the Airports Authority of India said.
Train services in the region are also operating as per schedule, officials added.
