JAMMU, JAN17: In a significant move towards infrastructure rehabilitation following last year’s devastating floods, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has granted administrative approval for the comprehensive permanent restoration of the critically damaged approach road to the 4th Tawi Bridge located near Bhagwati Nagar. The ambitious project, which carries an estimated cost of Rs 1,975.16 lakh (approximately Rs 19.75 crore), aims to restore full functionality to this vital connectivity link that suffered extensive damage during the catastrophic floods that struck the region in August 2025.
The 4th Tawi Bridge serves as a crucial arterial connection in Jammu city, facilitating the movement of thousands of commuters daily between various residential and commercial areas. The approach road sustained severe structural damage when unprecedented flooding wreaked havoc across the Union Territory last August, disrupting normal traffic flow and causing significant inconvenience to residents and businesses in the affected areas.
The administrative approval marks a crucial step forward in the government’s broader post-flood reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts across Jammu and Kashmir. The restoration project is expected to not only repair the damaged infrastructure but also incorporate enhanced resilience measures to better withstand future flood events and ensure long-term durability of the critical transportation link.
Officials familiar with the matter indicated that the substantial investment reflects the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy and improving infrastructure standards in flood-affected areas. The permanent restoration work is anticipated to commence shortly following the completion of necessary procedural formalities and contractor selection processes.
