Kathua, Dec 27: The District Kathua Taekwondo Championships 2025–26 concluded on Saturday with the closing and medal ceremony, bringing the curtains down on a competitive and well-attended district-level sporting event. The championship drew wide participation from young athletes and received strong support from the local sports community.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Hon’ble MLA Kathua, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. His presence encouraged the players and added weight to the concluding function of the tournament.
The championships were organised under the supervision of Amit Kumar Badculia, Secretary, Taekwondo Association of District Kathua. He was assisted by Pushap Thakur, Pankaj Spolia, and Vishesh Thakur, whose coordination helped ensure orderly conduct of bouts and smooth management throughout the event.
Nearly 150 players from different schools and sports clubs of Kathua took part in the championship. Participants displayed technical skill, discipline, and competitive spirit across various age and weight categories. The event aimed to strengthen Taekwondo at the district level and offer young players exposure to organised competition.
Players who secured medals in the championship have been selected to represent District Kathua at the forthcoming 28th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships 2025, making the tournament an important platform for district-level selection.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bharat Bhushan congratulated the organising committee for conducting the championship in a disciplined manner. He stressed the role of sports in shaping character, promoting discipline, and supporting the overall development of youth, and encouraged continued participation in sporting activities.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to the winners, marking the end of the championship on an encouraging note for players, coaches, and organisers alike.
