Kargil, Dec 24: Fresh snowfall across parts of Kargil district has raised concerns over road connectivity, particularly along the Srinagar–Leh National Highway, where movement over Zojila Pass is likely to be affected.
Light to moderate snowfall has been reported from several areas of Kargil since last night, following the forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre, Leh–Ladakh. Weather officials said snowfall activity is expected to continue through the day across Kargil and Zanskar, while higher reaches of Leh district may also receive snow.
According to the latest advisory, cold and overcast conditions are likely to prevail, with light snowfall expected at scattered locations in Kargil district and isolated snowfall over elevated areas of Leh district.
Speaking to Akashvani, Director of the Meteorological Centre Ladakh, Sonam Lotus, said that moderate to heavy snowfall is expected over Zojila, Drass, and Zanskar regions. He added that other high-altitude passes, including Khardung La and Chang La, may also witness snowfall.
The meteorological department has cautioned that snow accumulation could disrupt vehicular movement over major mountain passes, especially Zojila, and advised travellers to expect possible delays or temporary suspension of traffic. There is also a likelihood of flight disruptions due to adverse weather conditions.
Residents and visitors have been urged to remain alert, follow official weather updates, and plan travel only after consulting the concerned authorities.
