GOA DEC17: Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, co-owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub where a fire killed 25 people on December 6, arrived in Goa from Delhi under police custody. Goa Police landed with the duo at Manohar International Airport in Mopa at 10:45 AM on Wednesday.
The brothers underwent medical checks first at Siolim Primary Health Centre, then at Mapusa District Hospital in North Goa. A convoy of six police jeeps escorted them, placing each in separate vehicles. They ducked faces from media during transit.
Deported from Thailand’s Phuket after fleeing hours post-fire, the Luthras landed in Delhi on Tuesday, faced Patiala House Court for transit remand, and were arrested. A Delhi court granted two-day remand before Goa handover. They face culpable homicide charges over safety lapses like no emergency exits and fire show risks.
Interrogation awaits at Anjuna police station, followed by Mapusa court for regular remand. A magisterial inquiry probes the blaze, linked to firecrackers on combustible roofing.
