Katra, Oct 06: Dr. Pankaj Biswas, Assistant Professor at the School of Physics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, presented pioneering research on nanocomposite films designed to enhance solar cell efficiency at the international conference POLY-CHAR 2025, recently held at the University of Mauritius.
Dr. Biswas’ study focused on the optical characterization and upconversion luminescence of KSrVO4:Er³⁺ phosphor embedded in PMMA and PVP polymers. These luminescent layers, applied to the rear of solar cells, convert near-infrared photons into usable light, offering a significant boost to silicon-based solar device performance.
POLY-CHAR 2025, co-organized by the Centre for Biomedical and Biomaterials Research (CBBR), Mauritius, and the Wits Advanced Drug Delivery Platform (WADDP), South Africa, attracted leading researchers from 21 countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, India, and South Africa.
The conference underscored the intersection of polymer science and nanobiotechnology in addressing global challenges such as sustainable energy, advanced materials, and healthcare solutions. Organizers also highlighted Mauritius’ growing stature as a scientific hub in the Indian Ocean region, fostering international collaboration and innovation.
Dr. Biswas’ work exemplifies the potential of nanotechnology-driven luminescent materials in renewable energy applications, aligning with broader efforts to improve the efficiency and sustainability of solar technologies worldwide.
