Leh, Aug 10: Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta emphasized the need for Ladakh students to access high-quality education and facilities to compete at the highest levels, while urging more women to champion the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative for women’s empowerment.
Speaking at the LG Secretariat with a delegation from Turtuk, led by former Councillor Abdul Ali, Gupta addressed demands for a Government Degree College in Turtuk, enhanced infrastructure for the Army Goodwill School, and recognition of Balti as a state language.
He met with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Ladakh members, who briefed him on an upcoming football tournament in Spituk aimed at raising youth awareness against drug and substance abuse.
Similarly, the Lt Governor met a delegation from Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMFL) led by Branch Manager, Yatharth Sharma and anaesthesia technicians working on an outsourced basis under the National Health Mission, who requested his intervention in notifying permanent posts for the said post in the Health and Medical Education Department.
The Lt. Governor emphasised the development of skills among Ladakhi youth and the need to motivate them to start their own businesses, thereby benefiting the local population and providing employment opportunities to other youth as well.
He highlighted sports as a medium to keep youth away from drugs and substance abuse and stated that youth must be sensitised to focus on the development of Ladakh instead of indulging in bad practices.
He reiterated UT Ladakh Administration’s commitment to provide a supportive environment for Ladakhi youth.
Later in the day, SSP Leh, Shruti Arora, IPS, accompanied by Mukul Beniwal, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra, and Rishabh Shukla, IPS (2023 Batch), paid a courtesy call on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, at the LG Secretariat, Leh.
During the meeting, the officers briefed the Lt Governor on various administrative and law-and-order matters concerning the district, particularly focusing on ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing public service delivery, ensuring community safety, and strengthening administrative coordination.
The Lt Governor appreciated the efforts of the officers in maintaining peace, promoting efficient governance, and fostering closer engagement with the people of Ladakh, especially in the remote and sensitive areas of the Union Territory. He urged them to continue working with dedication, professionalism, and a people-first approach to address local challenges effectively.
