Majalta, Jul 26: Government Degree College (GDC) Majalta is on its way to getting a fully functional campus, announced Ranbir Singh Pathania, MLA from Udhampur East, during a student farewell event focused on journalism and social welfare.

Addressing students and faculty, Pathania shared that the academic block, being built at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore, will soon be ready to welcome students. Earlier in the day, he inspected the ongoing construction work and directed officials to expedite the completion of basic utilities like electricity and drinking water.

“The upcoming GDC Majalta campus will mark a new dawn for higher education in the entire Tehsil Majalta and adjoining rural belts,” he said. “It shall fulfill the long-standing aspiration of our youth for quality and accessible college education.”

The new campus will include classrooms, science labs, digital learning tools, a library, and areas for cultural and extracurricular activities. These additions are expected to not only improve the learning experience for college students but also support nearby schools by encouraging academic collaboration.

Pathania also emphasized that the development of GDC Majalta aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“NEP 2020 is not just a reform—it is a revolution aimed at creating Viksit Bharat@2047,” he said. “We aim to produce graduates who are not only degree-holders but also job creators, socially conscious citizens, and culturally rooted individuals.”

The event saw active participation from students, teachers, and local residents. Shalini Sharma, Principal of the college, welcomed the guests and spoke about the recent academic progress of GDC Majalta. She also acknowledged the efforts being made to improve the college’s infrastructure.

Chandrashekhar, Head of the Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the support shown by the local leadership.

Also present were Parshotam Joshi, former Executive Engineer (PWD), Niraj Kesar, President of the Press Club Majalta, Vijay Thakur, Jivan Mandal, and several senior officials associated with the project.

The gathering drew wide attention from the regional media and was attended by a large number of students, parents, and education stakeholders, reflecting growing interest in the college’s future.
