Takes briefing on strategic initiatives in eastern Ladakh

Leh, Jul 24: Emphasizing the importance of removing bureaucratic hurdles to enable local enterprises, attract investment, and foster sustainable economic development, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta on Thursday welcomed the national exercise on deregulation and reduction of compliance burdens.

The LG assured full cooperation from the UT Administration to ensure its seamless rollout in Ladakh.

Gupta noted the immense growth potential of Ladakh in tourism and other key sectors and reiterated the administration’s commitment to uplifting the regional economy.

This collaborative exercise signifies a key step in strengthening the region’s integration into national development priorities while empowering local stakeholders, the LG stated.

To discuss the progress and implementation of the national exercise on deregulation and reduction of compliance burdens, KK Pathak, Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, at Raj Niwas Leh.

Chief Secretary, Union Territory of Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal was present in the meeting.

During the meeting, KK Pathak presented a comprehensive briefing on the Government of India’s initiative aimed at streamlining regulatory frameworks to enhance ease of doing business across sectors. He highlighted the critical role of this exercise in boosting economic activity and accelerating India’s overall growth trajectory.

Pathak expressed optimism regarding the potential success of the initiative in Ladakh, citing the administration’s proactive approach and readiness to adopt reforms.

He conveyed hope that the unique governance environment in the Union Territory would facilitate smooth and effective execution.

Later in the day, Brigadier Vishal Srivastava, Chief Engineer of Project Himank, called on the LG at Raj Niwas, Leh. During the meeting, Brigadier Srivastava presented a comprehensive briefing on the strategic initiatives undertaken by Project Himank in eastern Ladakh.

The briefing encompassed the scope of Project Himank’s area of responsibility, with a particular focus on the progress of major road construction projects vital to regional connectivity and national security. Brigadier Srivastava also provided an update on the ongoing development of the Nyoma Airfield, which is slated for completion by September 2025.

The LG was apprised of the current status of border road infrastructure, a critical element in bolstering mobility and logistics in the frontier regions.

The LG expressed his appreciation for the commendable work carried out by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Project Himank, particularly under the demanding conditions and rugged terrain of Ladakh.

He lauded the engineering ingenuity and dedication of the teams involved, emphasising the importance of such infrastructure in enhancing strategic preparedness and facilitating socio-economic development in the region.

Meanwhile, the Shakti Yatra ‘Wheels of Valour’ Bike Rider Team, comprising 30 passionate riders- 22 women and 8 men, riding from Jammu to Rezangla in Eastern Ladakh, met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta.

It was informed during the interaction that their journey commenced on 18 July from Jammu, and the riders are on a spirited mission to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July.

This year, their yatra is driven by the theme, ‘A Ride for the Pride of Operation Sindoor,’ a heartfelt tribute to the courage of the Indian Army during Operation Sindoor.

During the meeting, the team leader provided a comprehensive briefing to the HLG about the objectives of the ride and their journey so far.

The LG appreciated the team’s patriotism, grit, and energy, acknowledging their unique contribution to national spirit and youth empowerment. He extended wholehearted support to the contingent during their stay in Ladakh and encouraged the riders to continue serving the nation in their respective capacities.

At the end, the LG wished them good luck for the next leg of their journey and a safe return to Jammu.
