Ramban, June 01: The 84 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday celebrated its 41st Raising Day at its Tactical Headquarters in Chanderkote, Ramban, commemorating more than four decades of service in some of the country’s most challenging operational theatres.
The celebrations commenced with prayers at the Sarv Dharm Prarthana Sthal, where officers and personnel sought blessings for a successful year ahead. Personnel later paid homage to the battalion’s martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty. A new battalion flag was hoisted at the Quarter Guard, followed by a Guard of Honour presented to Commandant N. Ranbir Singh.
Addressing officers and personnel during a Sainik Sammelan, the Commandant extended greetings to all ranks and their families. He recalled the distinguished service rendered by the CRPF and the battalion over the years and urged personnel to uphold the traditions of dedication, discipline and professional excellence.
Raised on June 1, 1985, at the CRPF Group Centre in New Delhi, the battalion has served in various conflict-affected regions across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, the North-East and Punjab. Since 2010, the unit has been deployed in Jammu and Kashmir and is entrusted with securing a 47-kilometre stretch of National Highway-44 in Ramban district, a strategic corridor widely regarded as the lifeline connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
As part of the Raising Day observances, personnel undertook a plantation drive and planted 100 saplings in and around the campus, reinforcing the force’s commitment to environmental conservation.
A mela organised during the celebrations drew enthusiastic participation from personnel and their families. Food stalls set up by various companies showcased cuisines from different regions of the country, while a range of recreational games added to the festive atmosphere.
In the days leading up to the anniversary, the battalion conducted several competitions, including physical endurance tests, weapon handling drills, firing events, badminton, volleyball, pickleball and tug-of-war contests, witnessing wide participation from personnel.
The celebrations concluded with a cultural programme presented by battalion personnel. Trophies, medals, certificates and prizes were distributed to winners and runners-up of the various competitions. A community dining event was also organised, bringing together personnel and their families to mark the occasion.
