KARACHI, SEPTEMBER 29: A 15-year-old Hindu girl was rescued in Pakistan’s Sindh province six months after she was allegedly abducted, forcibly converted to Islam and married off, a local rights organisation said on Tuesday.
According to Faqir Shiva Kachhi, chairman of Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, the girl was rescued with the cooperation of relevant authorities and has since been reunited with her family.
Kachhi said the girl was allegedly taken from near Mirpurkhas to an area near Badin, where she was reportedly converted and married despite being a minor.
He said efforts to trace and recover the girl continued for around six months before she was located and brought back to her family.
Pakistan Darawar Ittehad has been raising cases concerning members of the Hindu community, particularly families from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who it says have reported incidents involving the alleged abduction and forced marriage of minor girls.
In a separate case in Tando Allahyar district, two minor Hindu sisters were allegedly abducted on August 29 and subsequently converted to Islam and married. Police later recovered the sisters, after which a sessions court sent them to a shelter home despite their reported requests to return to their family.
Another Hindu girl from Tando Allahyar has reportedly been missing since September 9 and has not yet been located.
