Nyoma, Sept 23: The 13 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), in collaboration with the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office, conducted a two-phase community awareness programme on disaster management in Nyoma on September 22.
The initiative opened at the SDM Conference Hall, where SDM Nyoma Kacho Asgar Ali, along with heads of departments and staff from across the subdivision, attended an interactive session. The discussions centered on preparedness strategies, coordination during emergencies, and post-disaster recovery planning to strengthen institutional response.
The second phase shifted focus to the general public with demonstrations in the Nyoma market, drawing participation from shopkeepers and hotel owners. Practical training highlighted earthquake safety drills, administration of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), safe handling of LPG cylinders, fire extinguisher usage, and emergency response to accidents.
NDRF officials underscored the importance of community involvement in reducing vulnerability during natural or man-made disasters. Hands-on demonstrations aimed to empower residents with immediate skills to safeguard lives and property.
Participants expressed appreciation for the practical exposure, noting that the sessions improved their confidence to act during emergencies. Many pledged to carry forward the message of preparedness within their localities, reinforcing community resilience.
The programme formed part of the district administration’s efforts to integrate institutional mechanisms with public awareness, ensuring both officials and residents of Nyoma subdivision are better equipped to face future contingencies.
