New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) A Delhi court on Saturday sent Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on a woman co-passenger on an Air India flight, to judicial remand for 14 days while rejecting a plea by police for his custody. The police sought his remand for three days for custodial interrogation, saying he was required to be identified by three cabin crew members and two captains and other co-passengers were also to be examined. New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Delhi on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius, five notches below the average and the season’s lowest so far, according to the India Meteorological Department. Very dense fog reduced visibility at Palam to around 50 metres, affecting road and rail traffic. The visibility at the Palam observatory near the Indira Gandhi International Airport was 25 metres at 5:30 am. A Railways spokesperson said 36 trains were delayed by one to seven hours due to the foggy weather.

London, Jan 6 (PTI) A British Indian liver specialist battled for five hours to save the life of a passenger on a long-haul flight from London to Bangalore, a media report said. Dr Vishwaraj Vemala, 48, who works at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, was on his way to India with his mother when a fellow passenger went into cardiac arrest, BBC reported. Aided by medical supplies on board, including a pace monitoring device and blood pressure monitoring machine, and other items from passengers, Dr Vemala twice resuscitated the 43-year-old in November.

Washington, Jan 7 (PTI) The United States has announced another military assistance package of over USD 3.75 billion for Ukraine to fight the battle against Russian aggression taking the total US military assistance for Ukraine to an unprecedented USD 24.9 billion. The latest tranche of assistance will include for the first time 50 M2-A2 Bradley armoured vehicles for the Ukraine military. These armoured vehicles — enough to outfit a mechanised infantry battalion — will come with 500 tube-launched, optically sighted, wire-guided, or TOW, anti-tank missiles and 250,000 rounds of 25 mm ammunition, the Pentagon said.

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Over 96 per cent of income of the Trinamool Congress in 2021-22 came from electoral bonds, according to the party’s annual audit report, which also showed that its income from these bonds rose from Rs 42 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 528.14 crore in 2021-22. An electoral bond is a financial tool for enabling donations to political parties. Itanagar, Jan 7 (PTI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed another FIR in the cash-for-job scam of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and will formally take over the case, a senior police officer said here on Saturday. The CBI filed the FIR on Friday against a case pertaining to all irregularities committed in the examinations conducted by the APPSC since 2014, Special Investigation Cell (SIC) SP Anant Mittal said. The SIC has been investigating the case and arrested 46 persons so far including 39 government officials.

Kasaragod, Jan 7 (PTI) In another suspected case of food poisoning, a 20-year old woman died on Saturday after allegedly consuming Kuzhimanthi, a biryani dish from a local hotel. Police said Anju Sreeparvathy from Perumbala near here, had consumed Kuzhimanthi which she purchased online from a restaurant named Romansia at Kasaragod on December 31 and was undergoing treatment since then. “A case has been registered after her parents filed the complaint. The girl died early Saturday morning,” police told PTI, adding that further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.
