NEW DELHI, November 7: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday extended her greetings to citizens on the completion of 151 years since the composition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, describing it as a symbol of India’s national identity, self-respect and devotion to the motherland.
In a post on X in Hindi, the President expressed hope that citizens would embrace the spirit of putting the nation first, embodied in the song, and contribute towards nation-building.
“On the completion of 151 years since the composition of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all fellow citizens. During the freedom movement, this song served as a rallying cry of courage, unity and resolve for patriots,” she said.
President Murmu added that even today, ‘Vande Mataram’ represents the country’s national identity, self-respect and dedication to the motherland.
The national song was composed by renowned Bengali novelist and poet Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on Akshaya Navami, which fell on November 7, 1875.
During India’s freedom struggle, ‘Vande Mataram’ became a powerful expression of patriotism and inspired people to unite in the fight against British rule.
