JAMMU, October 31: Security forces on Saturday safely defused a rusted mortar shell discovered near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
According to officials, the unexploded mortar shell was spotted near a forward Army post in the Sawjian sector at around 9:50 AM.
Following its discovery, the Army immediately cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incident.
Officials said the shell is believed to have been fired by the Pakistani Army during cross-border shelling but failed to explode upon impact, remaining at the site as unexploded ordnance.
The Army subsequently carried out the necessary procedure to safely defuse the explosive device.
