Hyderabad, October 20: Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh flew a Kiran trainer aircraft at the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, near Hyderabad, on Tuesday, marking his final trainer sortie ahead of his retirement at the end of October.
After landing, Singh received a ceremonial water cannon salute as a mark of respect.
The sortie was an emotional moment for the IAF chief, who flew alongside his former instructor, Wing Commander (Retd.) VS Kochchar, at the academy where he began his flying career.
Singh had started his journey as a pilot in the Kiran aircraft and graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1984, earning the prestigious Sword of Honour.
Earlier, on October 12, he flew his final fighter aircraft sortie in the indigenous Tejas during Exercise Tarang Shakti at Jodhpur Air Force Station.
His final trainer sortie marked a nostalgic return to the aircraft that played an important role in the early stages of his distinguished flying career.
