MENDHAR/JAMMU, Oct 5: Two landmines were detected and safely destroyed by the Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, officials said.
The explosive devices were spotted by Army personnel during a routine patrol near the border fence at Basooni Top around 9.50 am, they said.
Following the detection, the area was immediately cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
The Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad later carried out a controlled explosion to destroy both landmines. No damage was reported in the operation, officials said.
Forward areas along the LoC are equipped with anti-infiltration obstacle systems, including minefields.
Officials said landmines in these areas can sometimes get displaced or exposed due to heavy rains and are subsequently detected by security personnel. Such devices are then defused or destroyed by trained experts to prevent any untoward incident.
