Srinagar, Oct 4: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed two separate chargesheets against a Kupwara resident in connection with alleged job and land fraud involving cheating, impersonation, forgery and collection of money from victims.
The chargesheets were filed before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Kalaroos Lishtiyal in Kupwara.
According to the investigation, Mir allegedly targeted individuals by making false promises of government jobs and land allotments and used forged documents to make the claims appear genuine.
In FIR No. 13/2026, registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), investigators alleged that Mir collected Rs 2.10 lakh from a complainant on the promise of arranging a government job.
The investigation further alleged that a fake appointment order purportedly issued by the Airport Authority of India was provided to support the claim.
In another case, FIR No. 10/2025, registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Mir allegedly impersonated a Duty Officer attached to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
Investigators alleged that he used the false identity to promise government employment and land allotments at SDA Colony, Bemina, and collected around Rs 60 lakh from several individuals.
Fake appointment letters and land-allotment documents were allegedly provided to the victims as part of the purported scheme, the EOW said.
The agency stated that both chargesheets have been submitted before the competent court for judicial determination in accordance with law.
The investigation also found that Mir is allegedly involved in 15 other criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley, highlighting the extent of the allegations against him.
The EOW Kashmir has advised people to remain cautious when dealing with individuals claiming to offer government jobs, land allotments or other official benefits in exchange for money.
Members of the public who believe they have been victims of economic fraud have been advised to approach the SSP EOW Srinagar, Crime Branch J&K, or submit complaints through the official channel.
Authorities have also urged people to verify employment and land-related claims through authorised government channels before making any payment.
