Shopian, Oct 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against a man accused of impersonating government officials and allegedly cheating people through social media in Shopian district.
According to officials, the accused allegedly posed as officials of various government administrative offices and used the identities to deceive people.
The allegations include impersonation of a public servant, cheating and fraud, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint, the official said.
The accused was identified as Umer Shamaim Ganie, son of Mohd Shamiam Ganie, a resident of Meemander, Shopian.
Police have registered FIR No. 207/2026 under relevant sections of law and taken cognizance of the case.
Further investigation is underway.
