Srinagar, Jul 3: Congress MLA from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat, has alleged that supporters of a National Conference MLA, including his brother Jalal Akbar Lone, attempted to assault him during an official review meeting on Friday.
Bhat said Jalal Akbar Lone and his associates disrupted the meeting held in Bandipora to assess development works and fund utilisation. According to him, they created chaos, vandalised the venue, and intimidated officials after objecting to the discussions and briefly walking out.
“They stormed into the hall, damaged doors and window panes, and tried to create panic,” Bhat told reporters, adding that police have been informed and action is needed.
He also claimed this was not an isolated incident, alleging repeated instances of similar behaviour.
Calling the episode “unfortunate,” Bhat urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene, warning that such incidents could strain the NC–Congress alliance.
“If the CM does not act, it will impact the alliance. We will not tolerate such hooliganism,” he said, adding that such actions could have long-term political consequences in Jammu and Kashmir.
