JAMMU, JUN 10 : A rusted mortar shell was recovered from a border village in Jammu district on Wednesday and later defused in a controlled explosion by a bomb disposal squad, officials said.
The unexploded ordnance was discovered by labourers while they were filling the plinth of a house with soil in Kothey Sanian village of Bishnah on the outskirts of Jammu.
Following the discovery, the matter was immediately reported to the authorities. A bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot, secured the area and safely shifted the shell to an open field.
The explosive device was subsequently neutralised through a controlled explosion, officials said, adding that no loss of life or damage to property was reported during the operation.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately inform the police or security agencies if any suspicious or unexploded objects are found in the area
