Kulgam, June 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to eradicate drug abuse from Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the government will continue its campaign until the Union Territory becomes completely drug-free.
Addressing a public gathering in Kulgam, the Lieutenant Governor said authorities have intensified efforts against narcotics trafficking and are taking strict action against drug smugglers and peddlers across J&K.
Highlighting the progress made under the anti-drug campaign, Sinha said around 930 FIRs have been registered in narcotics-related cases, while more than 1,000 individuals involved in drug trafficking and peddling have been arrested.
He added that the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach against the drug menace. As part of the crackdown, over 600 driving licences have been cancelled and recommendations have been made for the cancellation of 124 passports of persons allegedly linked to drug-related activities.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that combating drug abuse is not solely a law-enforcement challenge but a collective social responsibility. He called upon families, educational institutions, religious leaders and civil society organisations to play an active role in protecting the youth from substance abuse.
Urging young people to stay away from drugs, Sinha said the government remains committed to building a healthy, safe and prosperous society.
Reiterating his determination, the Lieutenant Governor said the administration would continue its sustained drive against drug abuse and trafficking and would not relent until the goal of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir is achieved.
