Leh, May 22 : Director School Education, UT Ladakh, Syed Sajjad Qadri, JKAS, on Thursday directed Zonal Education Officers to conduct social audits of the PM POSHAN scheme at least twice every month within their respective jurisdictions to ensure transparency and effective implementation of the programme across schools in the Union Territory.

The direction was issued during a comprehensive review meeting convened by the Directorate of School Education to deliberate upon academic performance, administrative functioning and implementation of various educational initiatives in Leh and Kargil districts.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Education Officers of Leh and Kargil, Principals of DIET Leh and Kargil, Zonal Education Officers from both districts and officials of the Directorate of School Education, Ladakh.

During the review, the Director stressed the need for greater institutional accountability, regular monitoring and timely execution of departmental programmes aimed at improving the quality of school education and welfare delivery mechanisms.

Academic performance in Board examinations also came under discussion, with Qadri appreciating the efforts of school heads and teaching staff of institutions that recorded strong results. He, however, emphasised the need for focused interventions and continuous academic improvement in schools with comparatively lower performance.

To strengthen institutional monitoring, the meeting decided that zone-wise weekly review meetings would be conducted regularly to assess progress and address academic and administrative challenges at the field level.

The meeting also focused on teacher education and professional capacity building, with District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) advised to submit proposals regarding inclusion and enhancement of Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) courses for Primary Level Teachers.

Chief Education Officers were further directed to obtain certificates from Heads of Institutions regarding students opting out of industrial placements under Vocational Education due to preference for higher studies.

Officials also discussed effective utilisation of funds earmarked for exposure visits and guest lectures to improve academic engagement and learning opportunities for students.

The Principals of DIET Leh and Kargil were requested to share research papers and academic studies conducted by their institutions with the Directorate to support policy planning and academic decision-making.

Special emphasis was laid on strengthening moral education among students and ensuring effective implementation of Swachh Abhiyan activities in schools across the Union Territory.

The meeting concluded with directions to all concerned officers for timely compliance and effective implementation of the decisions taken during the review session.
