Leh,Ladakh, April 25: The BJP State Mahila Morcha, led by its President Rinchen Dolker, along with Senior Vice President Deachen Angmo and Secretary Saira Bano, organised a press conference at the BJP Office in Leh today under the banner of “Mahila Akrosh.”
Addressing the media, Rinchen Dolker expressed concern over the rejection of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha due to a shortfall of 50 votes. She termed the development as unfortunate and reflective of the opposition’s lack of commitment towards women’s empowerment.
She extended her gratitude to the BJP government for introducing the 33% Women’s Reservation Act and appreciated all those members in the Lok Sabha who supported the bill. She highlighted that the Act aims to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, thereby guaranteeing adequate representation of women in governance. The Act also provides reservation for women belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
Senior Vice President, Deachen Angmo stated that the provision of reservation is expected to be implemented in the upcoming Hill Council elections. She urged women across Ladakh to come forward and express their disapproval towards those who opposed the bill.
Secretary, Saira Bano emphasised that the reservation will play a crucial role in promoting gender equality in society. She appealed to all sections of society to support the bill and strengthen women’s participation in decision-making.
Besides, she also submitted a memorandum to Hon’ble Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on April 24 regarding FCRA-related issues concerning some institutions.
