Leh, Apr 24 : The eighth edition of Poshan Pakhwada concluded at Shenam Hall in Skara on Thursday, with a strong emphasis on early childhood development, nutrition awareness, and community participation aimed at improving child health outcomes across the district.

Organised under the POSHAN Abhiyaan, the closing programme centred on the theme “Maximizing Brain Development in the First 6 Years of Life,” drawing attention to the role of balanced nutrition, early stimulation, and play-based learning, while cautioning against excessive screen exposure among young children.

The event brought together officials, healthcare professionals, Anganwadi workers, and community members to review outreach efforts and reinforce practices that support healthy growth during the formative years. Speakers underlined the importance of family and community engagement in ensuring improved nutritional standards and developmental care.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by CDPO Leh, Zarina Bano, followed by a presentation of outcomes and community feedback by Supervisor Tsewang Dolma from ICDS Project Durbuk. Their remarks highlighted increased awareness at the grassroots level and the need for sustained interventions.

A skit performed by Anganwadi workers from Leh Project drew attention to the adverse effects of prolonged screen exposure, while also suggesting practical measures for parents to regulate children’s screen time. The cultural segment, including a dance performance, reflected active community involvement in the initiative.

Delivering a lecture on early childhood care and education, DIET Leh Head of Department Tsering Yangdol stressed the role of child-friendly teaching methods and early learning in cognitive development. Complementing this, Counsellor Chonyit Dolma from DEIC, SNM Hospital, elaborated on early childhood stimulation for children aged zero to three years, warning against the developmental risks linked to excessive digital exposure.

Children from various Anganwadi centres participated through rhyme recitations, reinforcing the message of play-based learning as a vital component of early education.

Addressing the gathering, Director of Social and Tribal Welfare, Kunzes Angmo, spoke on strengthening nutrition initiatives and enhancing the delivery of Anganwadi services across the region. She emphasised coordinated efforts to ensure better outreach and service quality.

The event concluded with the distribution of Vidyarambh Certificates and felicitation of Anganwadi workers in recognition of their contribution to child welfare and grassroots development.

District Programme Officer, ICDS Leh, Rigzin Spalgon, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the participation of officials, Ama Tsogspa members, and other stakeholders, while reiterating the department’s commitment to advancing nutrition and early childhood development initiatives in the district.
