Leh, Apr 18: A book launch event at Islamia Public School in Leh on Thursday brought into focus the emergence of young literary voices in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, with student author Nufiza Nazir unveiling her work “The Serene Aura” before an audience comprising education officials, civil society members, and students.

The event, organised within the school campus, centred on the release of the book and the author’s interaction with attendees, where she shared insights into the themes and inspiration behind her writing. The gathering reflected a growing inclination among students in Ladakh to engage with creative pursuits alongside academics.

Bhanu Prabha, IAS, Educational Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, who attended as the Chief Guest, underscored the importance of encouraging literary expression among young learners. In her address, she acknowledged the effort behind the publication and called for sustained institutional support to foster writing and critical thinking among students in the region. Her remarks placed emphasis on expanding the scope of education to include creative disciplines, particularly in regions like Ladakh where opportunities for such exposure have traditionally been limited.

The presence of representatives from local organisations, including Advocate Mohd Shafi Lassu of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Leh, along with other office bearers and community members, added a broader social context to the programme. Their participation pointed to an ongoing engagement between educational institutions and civil society in promoting intellectual activities among youth.

The school administration also drew attention during the event for its academic performance, particularly its results in the Class 10 CBSE examinations. Officials noted that the institution’s efforts to balance scholastic achievement with encouragement of creative expression were beginning to yield outcomes across multiple areas.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging contributions from organisers, guests, and participants. The event, modest in scale yet reflective of a wider shift, signals how educational spaces in Jammu and Kashmir are increasingly accommodating platforms for student voices, particularly in fields beyond the conventional academic framework.
