Kargil, Apr 12: In a gesture aimed at recognising sporting merit and encouraging wider participation in athletics, District Police Kargil on Friday felicitated international Taekwondo athlete Shahnaz Parveen at the Women Police Station Kargil for her performances on international platforms.

Parveen, daughter of Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohd Isa of Ladakh Police, was honoured by Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Nitin Yadav, in the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police Ishtyaq A. Kacho. She was presented with a memento and a letter of appreciation, acknowledging her contribution in bringing recognition to the region and the country.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Yadav referred to the athlete’s journey as a reflection of sustained discipline and commitment, noting that such accomplishments resonate beyond individual success. He underlined the role of the police in fostering a supportive environment for the wards of its personnel, while also promoting sports as a constructive avenue for youth engagement.

The officer drew attention to the increasing presence of women in competitive sports, observing that Parveen’s achievements offer both visibility and encouragement to young girls aspiring to pursue professional sporting careers. He said that such examples contribute to a gradual shift in social attitudes, reinforcing the importance of equal opportunities.

Additional SP Kargil Ishtyaq A. Kacho, while congratulating the athlete, remarked that her participation and performance at reputed international events have brought focus to emerging talent from Ladakh, particularly in disciplines that demand both physical endurance and technical precision.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by DySP Headquarters Anayatullah, DySP DAR Tundup Dorjey, DySP UTDRF Baqir Barsha, SHO Police Station Kargil Inspector Kacho Sadat, SHO Women Police Station Tasleema Parveen, along with coach Mohd Ali, who was also honoured during the event.

Reiterating its broader outreach, District Police Kargil said it would continue to support initiatives that promote sports culture across the district, with particular emphasis on encouraging women athletes and the families of police personnel to engage in purposeful and skill-oriented activities.
