Leh, Apr 8: Marking World Health Day, a health awareness and medical camp was organised at the District Court Complex in Leh on Tuesday, bringing preventive healthcare services directly to litigants, court staff and the general public. Around 115 individuals were screened during the programme, officials said.
The initiative was conducted by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Leh, in collaboration with the Medical Department, as part of efforts to integrate public health outreach within institutional spaces.
A team of medical professionals led by Dr. Shaheen Parveen, Medical Officer at Primary Health Centre Thiksey, carried out free health check-ups, consultations and distribution of essential medicines. Screening services included tests for hypertension and diabetes, haemoglobin assessment, non-communicable disease counselling, and basic physical measurements such as height and weight.
Officials said the camp focused on sensitising participants about preventive healthcare and early detection of ailments. Judicial officers, members of the Bar, court employees, para-legal volunteers and litigants availed of the services.
The programme witnessed the presence of Secretary, DLSA Leh, Wangial Tsering; President of the Bar Association Leh, Mohd Shafi Lasu; Assistant Public Prosecutors, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, panel lawyers and administrative staff.
On-the-spot medical tests were conducted, and medicines were provided to those in need. The organisers stated that such outreach initiatives are intended to strengthen access to basic healthcare services while promoting awareness among diverse sections visiting public institutions.
