India vs West Indies: What Happens If Super 8 Match Gets Washed Out?

New Delhi, Feb 28: The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 clash between India and West Indies could have serious implications for the tournament’s knockout race if rain washes out the match, with the rules poised to favour the higher‑ranked team in the standings.

According to tournament regulations, if the game is unable to be played or is reduced so drastically that the super over cannot be completed, the higher‑placed team from the two will be awarded the points. With India currently leading the group table, they are likely to benefit if the match cannot be completed.

The outcome also affects path‑to‑final calculations, as a win or no‑result for India would make it harder for teams below them, including Australia and West Indies, to overtake and secure semifinal qualification. Organisers have contingency plans to reschedule the match or extend the tournament window if weather disrupts the Super 8 stage, but all eyes remain on the forecast ahead of the high‑stake India–WI clash.
