Jammu Dec 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday pressed for the early conduct of Urban Local Body elections while reaffirming its commitment to people centric governance during a meeting of party MLAs held at its headquarters in Trikuta Nagar Jammu.
The meeting was chaired by Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and BJP Jammu and Kashmir President Sat Sharma and attended by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma along with senior party leaders Ashok Koul General Secretary Organization and Dr Narinder Singh National Secretary and MLA. Party general secretaries and legislators participated in the closed door deliberations.
Party sources said the leadership reviewed the legislative performance of MLAs and assessed organisational functioning with a focus on public welfare delivery and grievance redressal. The discussions centred on strengthening grassroots structures to ensure lawful implementation of welfare schemes and improved civic administration across the Union Territory.
Addressing the legislators Sat Sharma said the BJP remains a consistent voice for public interest and directed MLAs to adopt a mission oriented approach in their constituencies. He stressed that welfare schemes of the Union government must reach all sections without discrimination and within the framework of accountability. Emphasising accessibility and regular public interaction he urged MLAs to continue raising civic and developmental issues through appropriate legislative forums. He underlined the urgency of Urban Local Body elections to facilitate decentralised governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma reiterated the party’s stand on transparency and responsible administration stating that the BJP has emerged as a credible political force backed by an organised cadre. He asked legislators to intensify grassroots outreach and alleged that opposition parties including the National Conference Congress and PDP had misled the public in the past. He said public support was increasingly shifting towards the BJP due to its stated focus on peace stability and empowerment and also advocated early Urban Local Body elections to strengthen democratic institutions.
Ashok Koul emphasised coordination between elected representatives and party workers saying disciplined organisation and service driven politics were necessary to ensure effective enforcement of welfare measures and prevent administrative lapses.
Dr Narinder Singh said development initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had reached remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir through an accountable governance model. He said this approach had improved service delivery and reinforced public trust in the administrative system.
