New Delhi/Jammu, Oct 09: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting in the national capital to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, with a particular focus on the Pir Panjal region and ongoing developmental projects in the Union Territory.
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, J&K Police Chief Nalin Prabhat, CRPF Director General G.P. Singh, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary and other senior officials from the Centre and the Union Territory administration.
Officials said the review comes amid sustained counter-terror operations following the April Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead. Shah stressed the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and called for seamless coordination among all security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Reiterating the Centre’s resolve to achieve a terrorism-free Jammu and Kashmir, Shah directed forces to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure that terrorist groups do not exploit the approaching winter and snowfall to infiltrate across the border. “Any attempt to threaten peace and security in the region will be dealt with sternly. Security forces will continue to have full freedom to crush any design aimed at creating chaos,” he asserted.
Officials briefed the Home Minister on the current ground situation, ongoing anti-terror operations, and developmental initiatives aimed at restoring normalcy and boosting tourism in the Union Territory. “Due to the determined efforts of the security agencies, the terrorist network nurtured by the enemies of the nation in J&K has been almost eliminated,” Shah noted.
Appreciating the coordinated response of security forces and the local administration after the Pahalgam attack, Shah said the measures undertaken had significantly strengthened the overall security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting marked a continuation of the Centre’s consistent security review process, the last being held on September 1. During his previous visit to Jammu in September, Shah had reaffirmed the Modi government’s unwavering stand against terrorism and its commitment to restoring lasting peace in the region.
Officials said Thursday’s deliberations underline the government’s intent to sustain the momentum of security operations and ensure that developmental and peace-building efforts in Jammu and Kashmir proceed without disruption.
