Leh, Oct 08: Signalling a decisive move toward complete normalcy, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Wednesday directed the administration to begin lifting the remaining restrictions across the Union Territory in a phased and coordinated manner. The directive follows encouraging public response and a marked improvement in the overall situation.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Leh to review the prevailing conditions, the Lt Governor instructed officials to ensure that the process of relaxation is implemented smoothly while maintaining public safety and facilitating economic revival. He emphasised that all normal activities, including educational and commercial operations, should resume at the earliest without compromising law and order.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Director General of Police Dr. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IG CRPF Pawan Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Leh, and Senior Superintendent of Police Leh, briefed the Lt Governor on the current law and order situation and the progress of reopening schools, colleges, markets, and other institutions across the region.
Expressing satisfaction over the steady return of normalcy, Gupta commended the people of Ladakh for their resilience and cooperation in maintaining peace and communal harmony. He noted that the reopening of educational institutions and markets reflects the public’s confidence in the administration’s initiatives to restore routine life.
Appealing to citizens, particularly the youth, the Lt Governor urged continued restraint and vigilance against any attempts to disturb peace and unity. “The progress of Ladakh depends on peace and stability. Every citizen has a role in upholding the values of unity and mutual respect,” he stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public welfare, Gupta assured that measures are underway to address grievances, strengthen grassroots governance, and expedite ongoing development projects. He reiterated that the Union Territory Administration remains dedicated to making Ladakh a model of peace, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
