Doda, Oct 08: A massive landslide struck the Baswal area near Bagla Bharath in Doda district on Sunday, claiming the life of a woman and leaving several others injured. The incident triggered panic among local residents and disrupted traffic movement along the route.
According to initial reports, a vehicle bearing registration number JK06C-0825 (Blorea) was caught under the cascading debris when a portion of the hillside collapsed. The woman passenger died on the spot, while five to six others sustained injuries of varying severity. The injured were rushed in an ECO vehicle to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for medical assistance.
Police and rescue teams arrived promptly after receiving the alert and launched relief and clearance operations. Authorities cited loose soil and recent weather fluctuations as the likely cause of the sudden slide.
Vehicular movement on the affected stretch has been suspended as precautionary measures continue. Officials have urged travelers to avoid the area until restoration and stabilization work is completed. Further details are awaited as rescue personnel continue to assess the extent of the damage.
